The
BRITTENBURG cuisine can be described as that
of the classical kitchen dressed up in a
modern jacket. Preparations from earlier
times and now, combined together. In the
menu, the emphasis is on fish courses and
dishes with crustaceans and shellfish.
The first mention of “de Burg ter
Britten” dates back to 1490. But the
restaurant was given the name BRITTENBURG in
1903 by the family van der Ploeg, together
with the hotel, on the corner of the
Wilhelminastraat until the Second World War.
After the liberation, they built
a new pavilion on the dunes close to where
the police post now stands, but it did not
survive the storms of 1953. Thereafter there
was a restaurant on the same spot for many
years and in 1994 the doors opened as the
Fish Restaurant BRITTENBURG, where I and
many colleagues began to work.
From this point onwards,
everything was homemade using only fresh
ingredients, and as the son of a local
baker, we also of course make our own bread,
bonbons, ice cream and everything else one
would expect of my profession. In our
spacious kitchens, fish and meat are
carefully prepared up to the final result on
your plate.
